Grand opening concert at JazzAhead 2014, Die Glocke, Bremen
Aarhus Jazz Orchestra
Featuring Gitte Hænning
Conductor Lars Møller
The program for the grand opening concert in Bremen will be as follows:
The first set will focus on contemporary big band music from Denmark including compositions by Lars Møller, whose creative compositions combine American jazz with the melodic Scandinavian tradition and a broad awareness of European and world music in an original and easily accessible expression.
The second set will be a tour de force of the Scandinavian and American repertoire – ranging form jazz to popular music – which has been Gitte Henning’s trademark throughout her long and versatile career.
The Aarhus Jazz Orchestra (AJO) is one of Scandinavia’s leading professional big bands. The band has performed in Europe and USA with a great number of the most important jazz musicians of our time - including Kurt Elling, John Scofield and David Liebman.
Under the new artistic director, internationally acclaimed saxophonist, composer and conductor Lars Møller, AJO has developed its musical profile towards a creative, contemporary Big Band with strong American, European and world music roots and influences.
AJO is sponsored by the Danish Arts Council. Founded in 1978 in Aarhus, Denmark, AJO performs approximately 60 concerts every year.
